Another Traffic Ticket Myth

🚗💨"If the officer doesn't show up in court, my ticket is automatically dismissed." Not always! 

  • There is no guarantee:
    While the officer's absence significantly increases the chance of dismissal, it's not guaranteed. 

  • It is up to the judge's discretion:
    The judge will consider the situation and may choose to postpone the hearing if the officer has a legitimate reason for not appearing. 

  • And finally, possible actions by the prosecutor:
    Even if the officer is absent, the prosecutor might request a continuance to allow the officer to appear at a later date.
