Is Your License Suspended?

🚘License Suspended? Here's What to Do!

If your Texas driver's license is suspended, you cannot legally drive, and you'll need to complete specific requirements and pay any associated fees to reinstate your driving privileges, which can be done through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) online License Eligibility System.

Here's a breakdown of what to do:

1. Understand the Suspension:
  • Reasons for Suspension:
Your license can be suspended for various reasons, including driving while intoxicated (DWI), failing to pay traffic tickets, failing to maintain required insurance, or accumulating too many points on your driving record.

  • Types of Suspensions:
There are definite suspensions (with a set end date) and indefinite suspensions (which remain in effect until you meet specific requirements).

  • Notification:
You'll receive a notification from the DPS stating the reason for the suspension and any required actions.

2. Determine Reinstatement Requirements:
  • Visit the DPS Website: Go to the Texas DPS Driver Eligibility System to check your eligibility status and see what steps are needed for reinstatement.

  • Compliance Items: You may need to submit documents, such as proof of insurance (SR-22), complete an alcohol/drug education program, or pay fines and fees.

  • Reinstatement Fees: There are reinstatement fees associated with getting your license back.

3. Take Action:
  • Complete Requirements: Address all outstanding issues, such as paying fines, completing required programs, or obtaining the necessary insurance.

  • Submit Documents: Send any required documents to the DPS by mail or fax.

  • Pay Fees: Pay all reinstatement fees online or by mail.

  • Check Eligibility: Once you've completed all requirements, check your eligibility status on the DPS website to ensure your license is eligible for reinstatement.

  • Reinstatement: Once your license is reinstated, you can legally drive again.

Depending on the reason, you may be eligible for reinstatement or a hardship license.  Give us a call to discuss your situation so that you can get back on the road.  🆘
