What to Do if you are Arrested...

🛑 Stay Calm and Call an Attorney!  Knowing what to do can make all the difference.

  • Invoke your right to remain silent: Do not answer questions or make any statements without a lawyer present. 
     
  • Ask for an attorney: Clearly state that you want to speak to a lawyer and do not discuss your case with police without one. 
     
  • Do not resist arrest: Even if you believe the arrest is wrongful, resisting can lead to additional charges. 
     
  • Do not consent to searches: Unless the police have a warrant, refuse to allow them to search your belongings. 
     
  • Stay calm and polite: Maintain a respectful demeanor throughout the process. 
     
  • Contact a lawyer as soon as possible: Once released, reach out to a criminal defense attorney to discuss your options.
