Pedestrians Have the Right of Way. Do You Know the Rules?

Posted by Scott Markowitz | Oct 08, 2026 | 0 Comments

🚶‍♀️ Crosswalks are for people, not for rolling through. 🛑

Failure to yield to a pedestrian is a serious traffic violation, and it can lead to fines, points on your license, and higher insurance rates. If someone is hurt, the consequences can be even more severe. 😟

Common situations where drivers must yield:
🔹 Marked crosswalks 🦓
🔹 Unmarked crosswalks at intersections
🔹 When turning left or right with pedestrians crossing 🔄
🔹 Near schools, parks, and busy downtown areas 🏫
🔹 When a pedestrian is using a guide dog or white cane 🦮

Quick reminders:
✅ Slow down and scan crosswalks as you approach 👀
✅ Never pass a vehicle that's stopped for a pedestrian 🚫
✅ Watch for people stepping out from behind parked cars or buses
✅ Be extra patient with kids, seniors, and people with disabilities 💙
✅ Put the phone away and stay focused 📵
